1. Primary school trusts: about training and support

Consistent, high-quality training and support for trusts

We work with over 100 trusts in England to provide a high-quality, consistent approach to the teaching and leadership of reading. This includes established trusts such as Ark, Harris, and Outwood Academies, the David Ross Education Trust and newly formed trusts of four or more schools. 

We keep track of reading progress- and work with the trust team to act on the data- for long-term success in every school. 

All children climb to the top of the reading ladder 

Read Write Inc. Phonics is for children from Reception to Year 4 and children with SEND in older year groups. 

With Read Write Inc. Phonics and support from Ruth Miskin Training, all children: 

  • reach the expected standard of the phonics screening check 
  • develop reading fluency and read with comprehension 
  • develop co-operative behaviour and articulate their ideas and understanding 
  • spell and write with confidence. 

This is why Read Write Inc. schools receive such glowing Ofsted reading deep dives.

What we provide for trusts

Half-termly remote progress meetings with RMT trust trainer, CEO, director and trust reading leader to:

  • analyse reading data for all schools in the trust
  • agree actions that will have the biggest impact on progress.

For each new primary school:

  • two in-school training days
  • up to three in-school development days 
  • access to our online subscription- including the online assessment, virtual classroom, and online training for Read Write Inc. Fresh Start, Comprehension, Nursery and Spelling. 

Impact of the RMT trust plan: PSC average 2023

Trusts with sustained, coordinated training and support achieve great results. 

  •  Trusts working with RMT for 3 years+: 90%
  •  Trusts working with RMT for 2 years+: 88%
  •  Trusts working with RMT for only 18 months+: 87%

Leadership training:

  • an initial Build an Expert Team leadership day for all headteachers and reading leaders 
  • five leadership days booked across one or two years for all reading leaders.

For renewal schools:

  • access to our online subscription- including the online assessment, virtual classroom and online training for Read Write Inc. Fresh Start, Comprehension, Nursery and Spelling
  • a minimum of one in-school development day.
