One-day Data Day – face-to-face each term
Data Days equip Hub Leads and Literacy Specialists to plan effective data-driven Literacy Specialist days. Our trainer shares expert programme knowledge to:
- analyse data and agree agendas with partner schools
- set targets to accelerate progress
- agree assessment, practice and coaching actions
- coach on the activities that will make the biggest difference
- provide solutions for schools causing concern
- prepare for the Phonics Screening Check.
Each Data Day includes a follow-up Action Plan and half-termly progress data.
Data Days can be for Reception, KS1, KS2 or KS3 schools or a combination of schools.

This two-day training shows how to support schools to teach RWI with confidence and fidelity.

Join us to share the priority actions based on data and the time of year – and discuss solutions to questions.

Two-hour Targeted Training – live online
Hubs can tailor either a one-day face-to-face deep dive or a two-hour online overview for their schools. Pick from:
- Build an expert team: assessment, practice and coaching
- Make a strong start in Reception*
- Progress from sounds to stories: Ditties and Red Storybooks*
- Getting to grips with graphemes: PSC
- Focus on fluency: Yellow, Blue and Grey Storybooks.
*For Reception Partner Schools, these trainings can include a focus on partner talk and writing activities.
One-day Say a poem training – face-to-face
Developed by Ruth Miskin, Say a poem develops oracy and builds vocabulary through sharing the joy of words, rhythm and rhyme. In this training, the Say a poem team show you how to bring the joy of spoken poetry into everyday classroom life.
Mark and Sara Rice-Oxley present the training. Mark is a poet, professional actor and voice coach. Sara is a primary school teacher, trainer and actor.
Ideal for all schools, regardless of SSP.
One-day Talk Through Stories training – face-to-face
Developed and trialled over the last eight years, our Talk Through Stories programme extends and deepens young children’s vocabulary and love of stories. This training inspires teachers to get the most out of the programme and to get children talking!
Ideal for all schools, regardless of SSP.
Two-day Read Write Inc. Phonics training – face-to-face
This training provides everything staff need to teach the programme with confidence – perfect for new group teachers or those needing a ‘refresher’.
This is only available for hubs to book for active partner schools.

We offer a unique bespoke programme for Reading Leaders and wider reading teams. In 12 sessions across the year, we share the recommended actions for that half-term.
All sessions include opportunities for practice and coaching with a trainer.

Secondary training and support
Fresh Start: proven to rescue struggling readers
Fresh Start is a systematic synthetic phonics programme for struggling readers aged 11 to 13+.
It accelerates students’ reading accuracy, fluency and stamina in just 30 minutes a day. Students make as much as two years’ progress in only two months.
We work with Hubs, Literacy Specialists and partner schools to rescue students who have missed out on critical teaching.

Initial training for Literacy Specialists
Two-day Fresh Start training – face-to-face or live online
This in-depth training gives Literacy Specialists the expertise to support secondary schools in our shared mission to help struggling readers.
The training focuses first on how to teach older pupils to read sounds, words and word endings. It moves on to teach how to apply this phonic and morphemic knowledge to reading and writing activities based on the fiction and non-fiction texts in our Fresh Start Modules.
There are two two-day options for Literacy Specialists:
- training for Literacy Specialists and their schools – booked and hosted by a Hub (Hub-funded)
- attend our Regional Training (Hub-funded).

Learn step-by-step how to teach the Fresh Start programme.
Training focuses on teaching older students to read sounds and words, then how to apply this phonic knowledge to the reading and writing activities in the Modules.
