Ruth Miskin’s training team

Our 150 trainers have a strong track record working in senior positions in schools. They undergo a term’s rigorous training with our top trainer team when they join us. This includes the teaching of reading, writing and language development.

Our training packages help you achieve sustained long-term success for all children.

The training packages

The renewal package includes 3 and 4 – with an option to add leadership training.

1. In-school training

Whole school training raises teachers’ expectations of all children. We show teachers how to start teaching Read Write Inc. quickly and confidently. All staff need to attend both training days.

All training for phonics, reading and writing activities is available on the online training subscription too, for ongoing practice and training.

2. Leadership training course

The six days of leadership training ensure you make the most of your investment in Read Write Inc. Phonics and build expert reading leaders.

Leadership courses are at regional venues across the country and include:

  • Build an expert team: assessment, practice and coaching
  • Make a strong start in Reception
  • Teach every child to read: one-to-one tutoring
  • Progress from sounds to stories: Ditties and Red Storybooks
  • Get to grips with graphemes: PSC
  • Focus on fluency: Yellow, Blue and Grey Storybooks
 
Our training and support package for new schools includes places for Build an expert team and Teach every child to read.

3. Online training subscription

We have the most comprehensive online subscription for the teaching of phonics, reading and writing – films are added every week.

It includes, over 850 films to help teachers teach phonics and fluency, and also training for Read Write Inc. Spelling, Fresh Start, Comprehension and Phonics for Nursery.

Resources and training for Talk Through Stories, developed by Ruth Miskin to encourage a love of stories and to grow vocabulary, are also included. 

The online subscription provides customised pathways for every member of staff to continue their own professional development after face-to-face training.

The Read Write Inc. Phonic element of the online subscription includes:

Bite-sized training 

Reading leaders can provide further training for staff on Read Write Inc. Phonics, Fresh Start, Comprehension. Nursery and Talk Through Stories.

 

In-action films in the classroom 

 

Teachers can watch experienced teachers in lessons.

Virtual classroom 

 

Staff can practise the next day’s lessons. Children can join in with phonic lessons at home. 

Bite-sized online training for Fast Track Tutoring and in-action films

Tutors learn how to support children making slower progress, including those who have SEND.

The trainer works with the reading leader, headteacher and staff while the school is open, focusing on children who need extra support.

5. Remote progress meetings

The hour-long remote progress meetings are with the reading leader and headteacher.  

We discuss progress data to decide the next steps for children who are receiving tutoring, and plan staff practice and coaching. 

Many schools book remote progress meetings two or three times a year.
