1. In-school training day
Whole school face-to-face training raises teachers’ expectations of all children and shows teachers how to start teaching Read Write Inc. immediately.
The trainer shows your staff how to teach Read Write Inc. Phonics and the processes that underpin learning to read and write. All staff need to attend this training, so it is likely to need a closure day.
All training for phonics, reading and writing activities is available on the online training subscription.
Some schools also choose to book a second training day to receive training on the full programme in person.
2. Six days leadership training course
The six days of leadership training ensure you make the most of your investment in Read Write Inc.
Leadership courses are at regional venues across the country. Days are non-consecutive and can be taken over two years.
New schools need to book Day 1 with the office team, so they know when to activate the online subscription, and to confirm that the headteacher will be attending. The order of Days 2 and 6 is recommended, but not essential. To contact our team, please complete our booking enquiry form.
Days 2 to 6 should be booked here.
Schools with an active online training subscription can add leadership days to their current package at a discounted rate via the RMT School Portal and book courses in any order here.

Thank you for championing children's reading, encouraging us to 'up our game' to make sure the more vulnerable pupils aren't left behind. Your programme enables us to do this.”

Headteacher of St Peter at Gowts Primary school
3. Online training subscription
We have the most comprehensive online subscription for the teaching of reading – films are continually added and early ones updated.
It includes, currently, over 850 films to help teachers teach phonics and fluency, and also training for Read Write Inc. Spelling, Fresh Start, Comprehension and Phonics for Nurseries.
Resources and training for Talk through stories, a new programme, is also included. It has been created by Ruth Miskin to develop children’s spoken language.
The online subscription provides customised pathways for every member of staff to continue their own professional development after face-to-face training.
The online subscription is activated one week before the headteacher and reading leader attend the first day of the six-day face-to-face leadership course. (See 3. below)
The Phonic element of the online subscription includes:
Bite-sized training |
Reading leaders can provide further training for staff
|
In-action films in the classroom
|
Teachers can watch experienced teachers in lessons. |
Virtual classroom
|
Staff can practise the next day’s lessons. Children can join in with phonic lessons at home. |
Bite-sized online training for Fast Track Tutoring and in-action films |
Tutors learn how to support children making slower progress, including those who have SEND. |
4. In-school development days
The trainer works with the reading leader, headteacher and staff while the school is open, focusing on children who need extra support.
We recommend that schools requiring improvement book additional days’ support in the first year.
