Read Write Inc. Phonics – learning to read at home

Films for children

To help children learning to read at home during the summer term, we have 12 Speed Sounds, reading and spelling lessons on our YouTube channel every weekday.

Lessons include Word Time, Spelling, Reading Red Words, Reading Longer Words and Read and Hold a Sentence.

Each lesson is ten to fifteen minutes long and available from 9.30am for 24 hours.

Don't worry if you miss a lesson. Once each set has been shown, we will replay one a day from each set.

Storytime with Nick

Watch Storytime with Nick; films of well-loved stories read by Nick Cannon, a trained actor, teacher and trainer and a wonderful storyteller.

There are 20 fabulous stories available via our website and YouTube; perfect for storytime in YR, Y1 and Y2.

We won’t be adding any more films until early July while we concentrate on the launch of our new online Read Write Inc. Phonics training. Thank you for your support and patience. Nick will be back with more engaging storytimes soon!

Due to permissions from publishers, films are only available via a link here and via our Facebook and Twitter accounts.

Storytime includes books by Tom Percival, Cressida Cowell, David Melling, Jeanne Willis, Judith Kerr, Oliver Jeffers and David Walliams

Most films will be available for the period of school closure.

Poetry Time

To encourage a love of poetry, we have seven Poetry Time films for children in Reception and Year 1 to watch. Our performers, Nick and Elly, show how reading poems with thought and attention can evoke strong feelings in children – and adults! Children and parents can join in, enjoy the poems again and again and even learn them by heart.
