Ruth Miskin Trainers in schools – update 18th May to 12th June 2020
Now more than ever, our team are itching to work in schools to help teach every child to read.
However, until we have clarity about social distancing in schools and whether outside agencies can visit, we won’t be providing face-to-face training or Development days. We hope you understand.
We can provide remote support, including practice sessions, and help schools set up a plan of action to help children get back on track with phonics and early reading.
We also have a new package combining online and face-to-face training available from the beginning of July.
Details will be announced on our website and via the newsletter soon.
The team will be in touch with all schools that have bookings this term.
Remote support for schools May and June 2020
'Our four remote support sessions were invaluable in developing a solid understanding of the programme.
Group teachers were invited to appropriate sessions, making the best use of everyone’s time. All our queries were addressed, enabling the reading team to make a confident start. The sessions were clear, concise, convenient, tailored to our needs and enjoyable! Highly recommended!’

Storytime with Nick
Watch Storytime with Nick; films of well-loved stories read by Nick Cannon, a trained actor, teacher and trainer and a wonderful storyteller.
A new story is added to our YouTube channel at 2pm on Monday, Wednesday and Friday each week.
Due to permissions from publishers, films are only available via a link here and via our Facebook and Twitter accounts.
Storytime includes books by Tom Percival, Cressida Cowell, David Melling, Jeanne Willis, Judith Kerr, Oliver Jeffers and David Walliams
Most films will be available for the period of school closure.
Read Write Inc. Spelling
Schools with a subscription to Read Write Inc. Spelling can set up a class log-in to the Extra Practice Zone for activities for children to practise spelling at home.
Poetry Time films
To encourage a love of poetry, we have seven Poetry Time films for children in Reception and Year 1 to watch. Our performers, Nick and Elly, show how reading poems with thought and attention can evoke strong feelings in children – and adults! Children and parents can join in, enjoy the poems again and again and even learn them by heart.
The films are available on our YouTube page and our website. PDFs of the poems for adults to read to children are available on the home reading page too.
Parent and carer hotline
We now have a hotline for parents and carers helping children learning to read at home with Read Write Inc. Phonics. Please email firstname.lastname@example.org with any queries.
