New DfE figures reveal that more children than ever are reaching the expected levels of development in literacy and maths at 5 – meaning they are ready to succeed at school and beyond.
Statistics published on 13 October 2015 show that more than two-thirds of children aged 5 are making good progress against the early years foundation stage profile, first introduced by the government in 2012.
The statistics also show that:
- 70% of children achieved at least the expected level in all early learning goals in literacy
- the attainment gap between the lowest attaining children and their classmates continues to decrease to 32.1%
