Nick Gibb speaks about the importance of phonics

Nick Gibb, Minister of State for School Reform, recently gave a speech on the importance of phonics at the Reading Reform Foundation Conference.

He gave thanks to Ruth for her continuing contributions in support of the teaching of phonics, and praised ARK schools for their success in the phonic screening check. He also announced a pilot to allow pupils to retake the check again in Year 3 due to its value as a diagnostic tool that helps to identify pupils in need of further support.
