Ofsted confirms radical reforms to education inspection

Ofsted’s National Director of Schools, Sean Harford, said to improve education standards over the next three years Ofsted will:

  • carry out frequent but shorter inspections of good schools and further education and skills providers (once every three years)
  • introduce a common inspection framework to standardise the approach to all education inspections
  • inspect all independent schools in the next three years.

The Common Inspection Framework will be in place from September 2015 and will focus on the curriculum and safety of pupils. Ofsted are also making changes to how it contracts, trains and manages inspectors.
