Maryland Primary in Newham has been a Model School for 8 years. Tristam Hunt, shadow education minister, commented on a recent visit: "It was very rewarding to watch the focus placed on phonics and the literacy results it produces in such a diverse pupil group."

Aberdare Park Primary School in South Wales is the highest performing primary school in the Cynon Valley. Their KS2 results are fifth highest in Wales.

Abercerdin Primary School have experienced rapid improvement in the their results post implementation of the Read Write Inc. programmes. In 2013 100% of KS1 children achieved Level 2 and 41% achieved Level 3, climbing from 74% Level 2 and 9% Level 3 the previous year. Councillor Huw David, Bridgend County Borough Council Cabinet Member for Children and Young People, said: “For a small primary school in one of the most disadvantaged areas of Wales to be making such strides is truly inspiring. The school is excelling in every area of literacy and creating classrooms full of enthusiastic young readers. Learning to love reading and writing at a young age is hugely influential to a child’s development, opening up their imaginations and creativity, and will obviously be a magnificent asset for them in their education as they get older.”

Congratulations to Mapplewell Primary School in Barnsley and Teignmouth Community School in Devon for the being the first schools to be awarded Model School status in 2014.
